Deputy Pedro Lupion (PP-PR), president of the Agricultural Parliamentary Front, criticized this Tuesday (11) the announcement of new invasions made by the coordinator of the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST), João Pedro Stédile. This Monday (10), Stédile said, on video, that the group would carry out land invasions in all states of Brazil during the month of April.
“There is no room for a retreat from the return of invasions. Yesterday’s João Pedro Stédile video is criminal, it is extremely serious, it is incitement to violence, incitement to crime and an attack on the right to property in the country,” said Lupion.
The deputy pointed out that the federal government must intervene with its “allies” to prevent invasions. “It is up to the federal government, the responsibility to calm its allies. The President of the Republic himself wore an MST cap during the electoral campaign… They need to calm this down. Brazilian society does not in any way accept invasions of private property,” he said.
The actions of the MST would be part of the “April of Fights”, also called “Red April”, carried out in memory of the massacre of Eldorado do Carajás, which took place in April 1996, which resulted in the death of 19 landless people.
In addition, federal deputy Evair Vieira de Melo (PP-ES) to present two summons requests so that the Ministers of Justice, Flávio Dino, and of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, provide clarification on measures to avoid actions.
The requests were presented this Tuesday (11) by the deputy to the Agriculture Commission and also to the Inspection and Control Commission. The members of the collegiate bodies must approve requests for ministers to be summoned.
MST backs off and now says there will be no invasions across the country
After the repercussion of Stédile’s speeches, the national coordinator of the MST, João Paulo Rodrigues, ruled out the possibility of the movement carrying out invasions throughout the country. Rodrigues stated, in an interview with Folha de S. Paulothat the mobilization must be punctual.
“We carried out 16 land occupations in 2023. Possibly there will be more mobilization next week, which can take place in marches, assemblies, acts in the capitals, in legislative assemblies. We are saying that there is no day of land occupations”, stressed the leader of the MST.
This month, the MST invaded an area in Pernambuco and the Incra superintendence in Alagoas, to demand the dismissal of the agency’s superintendent, César Lira, cousin of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP).
