The 26th Meeting of the Forum of São Paulo, which will take place between June 29th and July 2nd in Brasília, is selling tickets in dollars for those who want to participate in the event. The group of leftist parties and organizations will charge US$250 (R$1,200) for members and US$50 (R$243) for individual access.
The charge for admission in dollars occurs amidst the critical discourse of what would be “US imperialism” and in a quest by Latin American leaders – such as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) – for less dependence on the currency.
The meeting in Brasilia was motivated mainly by the election of Lula who, since the beginning of the new government, has been trying to strengthen relations with the nations of the continent, including the Venezuelan dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro.
This year’s edition of the meeting will have a program with discussions ranging from integration policies of leftist countries and governments to an analysis and debates on the use of social networks and “platforms of struggle of the trade union and popular movement”, as explained by the meeting website without detailing what should be discussed. There will be two panels focused on this theme over the course of a whole day.
There will also be a panel focused specifically on the “Brazilian situation and government policies”, which should include an analysis of the national political scene and Lula’s election itself with the return of the PT to power. The party will even have a fraternization party as part of the Forum’s official program on the penultimate day.
