Former USP dean says faculty benefited from reforms – 07/07/2023 – Educação

The former dean of USP (University of São Paulo) João Grandino Rodas argued that the Faculty of Law, in the city of São Paulo, benefited from the reforms carried out through donations in contracts signed when he was director of the unit.

The teacher also said that he will appeal the decision, in the first instance, in which he was condemned by the contracts.

In a note sent to Sheet this Friday (7th), the former dean pointed out that USP did not suffer any loss with the contracts.

“It should be noted that the University of São Paulo, which is a legal entity that includes the Faculdade de Direito do Largo São Francisco, did not suffer any damage, but on the contrary, benefited enormously from all the constructions, as amply proven in the records. “

Rodas said that the Pinheiro Neto office renovated “a large classroom and the set of restrooms; on the ground floor of the main faculty building” and that Pedro Conde Filho, linked to the Pedro Conde office, built an auditorium for 100 people and “a large set of toilets, on the 2nd floor; floor that did not have bathrooms”.

“Both auditoriums were the first in the faculty to be accessible, acoustic, air-conditioned and equipped with modern communication technology”, he said in a statement.

“With the Pinheiro Neto Firm there was no written agreement; while, with Pedro Conde Filho, there was, within the scope of the Campaign for the Modernization of the Faculty of Law, a contract between, on the one hand, the Association of Former Students of the Faculty of Law and the Board of the Faculty and, on the other, Pedro Conde Filho; whose witnesses were the then directors of the Academic Center XI de Agosto and the Associação Atlética Acadómica XI de Agosto. Such contract, regarding the eventual naming of the rooms, had a clause in the sense that the claim would be submitted to the university authorities for approval”, continues the note.

According to the statement, displeased with the fact that his father’s name was removed from the auditorium he built, Pedro Conde Filho filed a lawsuit against USP to demand reimbursement of the amount spent on the works. However, in June of this year, he withdrew the grounds for the action, which ended up being archived.

Rodas also stated that the lower court ruling “asserts that there was no damage to the treasury, nor enrichment” on his part.

“The former dean of USP is fully aware of his duty fulfilled; he is waiting, serenely, for justice to be achieved at higher levels”, concludes the note.
