The former deputy governor of Amazonas Carlos Almeida joined the PT, after two months of negotiation. The exchange was sealed last Wednesday (21) in Brasília, with the president of the legend, Gleisi Hoffmann.
A public defender, Almeida leaves the PSDB, the party to which he was affiliated until then.
Almeida was the vice-governor when Manaus experienced the oxygen crisis during the coronavirus pandemic.
He broke with Governor Wilson Lima (União) and in an interview with Sheetblamed the former ally for the lack of oxygen and the adoption of the herd immunity policy, championed by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Almeida’s arrival gives impetus to the PT’s strategy for the municipal elections. The goal is to pave the way for a candidacy for the state in 2026.
