Former secretaries of Bruno Covas criticize Ricardo Nunes – 04/25/2023 – Panel

Former secretaries of Bruno Covas (PSDB) decided to raise the tone in criticism of Ricardo Nunes (MDB), who was elected in 2020 as vice-president of the ticket and took charge of São Paulo City Hall in May 2021, with the death of the toucan .

The most recent hook is the revision of the Goals Program, established for the four-year period from 2021 to 2024, with modifications in at least 27 proposals. The new text, in large part, softens the City Hall’s commitment.

Former secretary of the João Doria, Bruno Covas and Ricardo Nunes administrations, Orlando Faria published an open letter to the emedebista on his social networks. In it, he says that the original Programa de Metas, drawn up by Covas and now altered by Nunes, was daring for the emedebista, but not for the toucan.

Faria says that the mayor did not keep his promise to keep the toucan’s team, because, in his accounts, 65% of the folders had changes of secretaries. In the subprefectures, 50% of the chiefs were changed. He also writes that the original Goals Program was chosen by society in the election, agreed upon after dozens of public hearings, and is now replaced by a new, “more comfortable” project for the election of Nunes.

“Dedicate yourself less to electoral articulations, as we see almost daily in the press, and comply with the 2021-2024 Goals Program of the Bruno Covas administration, a legacy built together with society. Or, due to the lack of daring and competence, reveal yourself to voters. And assume the future consequences of failing to fulfill a public commitment of this magnitude”, writes the former Secretary of Tourism and Civil House.

Former secretary of International Relations and former president of SPTuris, municipal tourism agency, Luis Álvaro criticizes in the same direction.

He says that Nunes seems to take specific actions to get exposure in the press, unlike Bruno Covas, who was committed to the legacy to be left for the city. According to him, it is possible to see that the mayor works, but does not act with the perspective of a statesman.

One of the examples of this, says Álvaro, would be the change in the SPTuris project, in which he was placed to complete the agency’s privatization process, which ended up being abandoned by the current management.

“The program we created was daring, but feasible. It will not reach those goals and I have doubts that it will even manage to meet the ones it has set now”, he says.

Like Faria, Álvaro is a toucan and says that he would not like to have to support Nunes in his attempt to be re-elected in 2023. According to him, the PSDB has strength in São Paulo and should seek its own candidacy.

Privately, remnants of the Covas administration who remain in municipal management have corroborated the criticism, but have not publicly expressed it for fear of losing the positions they currently hold.
