The coach and candidate for the presidency of the Republic in the 2022 elections, Pablo Marçal, is one of the targets of an operation launched by the Federal Police this Wednesday morning (5). The agents carried out seven search and seizure warrants at his and a partner’s residences and at the companies’ headquarters in the cities of Barueri and Santana de Parnaíba, in the interior of São Paulo.
According to the PF, Operation Cycle investigates “alleged electoral ideological falsehood, electoral embezzlement and money laundering, which occurred in the course of the 2022 elections”.
“The investigated candidate for President of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies and his partner made millionaire donations to the campaigns, and a good part of these amounts was later sent to the companies of which they are partners”, said the police in a note.
Pablo Marçal was approached by the report, but has not yet commented.
The businessman ran for president in 2022 for PROS, with which he fought a dispute with a wing that was in favor of supporting the ticket of the then candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Without the support of the party and after an unfavorable decision by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) due to processes related to the change of party presidents, Marçal changed his candidacy registration to run for the Chamber of Deputies.
Marçal ran under judgment, with lawsuits still pending, and won the dispute on October 30. However, a process that was running at the TSE rejected the candidacy registration due to the absence of requirements, such as mandatory documents.
The recount of votes gave the vacancy in the Chamber to PT Paulo Teixeira.
