Former president of EBC will receive a salary of R$34,000 for 6 months after dismissal

Dismissed from Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) for an offensive post on social media in mid-October, journalist Hélio Doyle will continue receiving a salary of R$34,000 for six months. He benefited from a decision by the Ethics Committee taken at a meeting on December 11th.

The decision follows the case law of granting paid quarantine to former high-ranking federal government employees who had access to privileged information. In Doyle’s case, the controversy involved a tweet by cartoonist Carlos Latuff that he shared calling Israel supporters “idiots.”

“I filled out the request, sent it to the commission and was notified of the decision,” he said in an interview with the newspaper The state of Sao Paulo. Doyle had been leading EBC since February and spent eight months in the role.

Ana Moser also receives benefits after being fired from ministry

The granting of paid quarantine is not exclusive to Doyle. The former Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, also received the benefit after being dismissed to give Centrão more space in the government.

Unlike Doyle, Moser did not present a job proposal when requesting paid quarantine, claiming to have been contacted by several companies interested in her consultancy in areas related to the Ministry of Sports.

The Ethics Committee’s practice of exempting the presentation of a job proposal is based on the sensitivity of the positions held by former employees. Positions such as Minister of Economy or President of the Central Bank could be exceptions to this rule.
