Former national team player Dele Alli reveals he was sexually abused at the age of 6

O English midfielder Dele Allian Everton player, revealed on Thursday that he was sexually abused when he was six and that he started dealing drugs two years later.

The statements were made during the television program “The Overlap”, which is hosted by former England player Gary Neville.

Dele Alli, who capped England 37 times, admitted he was recently forced into six weeks of rehab to overcome his addiction to sleeping pills.

The midfielder had some episodes from the past that affected his mental health and his career as a professional player.

Considered one of the great recent revelations of English football, the midfielder revealed that he was about to end his playing career at just 24 years old.

“To be honest, my childhood is something I haven’t talked about much. My mother was an alcoholic. They sent me to Africa (with his father) to learn discipline, and then they brought me back. At the age of seven, I started smoking , and at eight he was dealing drugs,” he said.

Dele Alli recalled that “by luck” he was adopted at age 12 by the “wonderful family” Hickford.

“I couldn’t come across better people for what they’ve done for me,” said the English midfielder.

Despite the efforts of his new priests and his brother to talk about the problems he had, Alli laments that he “couldn’t” because he “wanted to face the situation himself”.

Dele Alli exploded at Tottenham

The player exploded when he was signed in 2016 by Tottenham, after being formed by MK Dons, from his hometown of Milton Keynes, in northwest London. In 2018, he was called up to compete in the World Cup.

At that time, says Alli, he was already struggling with drug addiction, insomnia and alcohol dependence.

“I became addicted to sleeping pills. It’s probably not a problem that only I have. I think it’s something that is more widespread in the world of football than we realize,” said the midfielder.

The former Tottenham player admitted that the drugs and alcohol served to “numb the feelings” until they stopped working for him.

“Definitely, I consumed a lot. It was desperate. Now, I have left that and I can look back”, said the midfielder.

Alli defined his first spell at Tottenham, under the command of Portuguese José Mourinho, as the saddest moment for him.

“I think I was 24 years old. One morning, I got up and had to go to training. That was the moment when the coach stopped putting me on. he loved,” recalls the Englishman.

Currently, Dele Alli wants to rebuild his career at Everton, after a period on loan at Besiktas, in Turkey, and undergoing an operation on one of his knees.

“When I returned from Turkey, I realized that I wasn’t well mentally, and I decided to check into a modern rehabilitation clinic”, said the Englishman, who thanked his new club for their support “to make the most important decision of his life”.
