Brazil had a golden Wednesday (12) at the Paralympic Athletics World Championship, which is being held in Paris (France), with highlight for Beth Gomes from São Paulo, who triumphed both in the shot put and discus throw competitions. Beth later shined in the discus throw. She reached the distance of 17.12 meters to overcome the previous world record, which was also hers, of 16.80 meters, set at the Brazilian Athletics Championship.
Another Brazilian to take the gold was Claudiney Batista. The Brazilian, who had already secured the conquest at the 2019 World Cup, held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), this time threw the disc 46.07 meters in the F56 class. The silver went to the Indian Yogesh Kathuniya (43.17 meters), while the Slovakian Dusan Laczko secured the bronze (42.70 meters).

But I always try to evolve to try to stay at the top of the podium”declared Claudiney, who was also a gold medalist in the event at the Tokyo Paralympics.
In the 200 meters class T37 (athletes with cerebral palsy), Brazil got a double with the gold of Ricardo Mendonça from Rio de Janeiro and a silver of São Paulo’s Christian Gabriel da Costa. The last gold medal of the day went to Felipe Gomes from Rio de Janeiro, in the 400 meters class T11 (blind athletes).
The day also saw two more silver medals – Fabrício Ferreira in the 100 meters of the T13 class (athletes with visual impairments) and Alessandro Silva in the F11 shot put (blind athletes) – and two bronzes – Fábio Bordignon in the 200 meters of the T35 class and Matheus de Lima in the 100 meters T44 (athletes with disabilities in the lower limbs).
After these five golds, three silvers and two bronzes, Brazil took the second position in the overall medal table, with a total of seven golds, five silvers and eight bronzes. The leader is China (ten golds, six silvers and four bronzes).
Brazil is represented at the Athletics World Cup by 54 athletes from 19 states and 11 guide athletes. The World Athletics Championships in Paris is the first in the sport after the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. The competition is played at the Charlety Stadium, which has a capacity for 20,000 people and belongs to the Paris FC football club, in the French second division.
