The former commander of the Air Force of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) Carlos de Almeida Baptista Júnior told the Federal Police that he had received a request from congresswoman Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) to adhere to the thesis of a coup.

The statement was given during the former FAB chief’s testimony to the PF and while he responded whether he received pressure via social media from supporters of the former president to try to keep him in power.

Baptista Júnior stated that he was asked to take action through social media, but not only that. In this context, he said that Zambelli asked him not to “leave Bolsonaro in the lurch.”

“That on 12/08/2022, after the graduation of aspiring FAB officers, in the city of Pirassununga/SP, the deponent was questioned by federal deputy Carla Zambelli, with the following question: “Brigadier, you cannot leave President Bolsonaro in hand”, says an excerpt from the soldier’s statement.

“That the deponent then said: “Deputy, I understand what you are saying and I do not accept that you are proposing any illegality”; that the deponent reported this fact to the then Minister of Defense, Paulo Sérgio de Oliveira; that the minister reported to the deponent, who was approached by federal deputy Carla Zambelli in a similar way”, continues the term.

Baptista Júnior’s conversation would have taken place one day after a meeting at Palácio da Alvorada in which Bolsonaro would have consulted military leaders regarding the possibility of issuing a decree with legal instruments that could keep him in power.

Zambelli was also mentioned in the testimony of former Justice Minister Anderson Torres, but sideways.

Torres said that the coup draft found in his house was not his own and that he knew that documents of this type were being delivered “to several public bodies”, when he mentioned Zambelli.

“He wishes to reiterate that the text found at his residence was not his own, was not received or passed on by the declarant to any member of the government or to the then President of the Republic; that, at that time, such documents were trivialized and were being delivered to various public bodies; who saw in the press that deputy Carla Zambelli received it in her office and Valdemar Costa Neto received it at the airport.”

Zambelli was approached to comment on the content of the statements, but has not yet commented.
