Former director general of the PRF will be the first to testify at the CPMI on January 8

The first witness summoned to testify at the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) on January 8 will be the former general director of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), Silvinei Vasques. The testimony is scheduled for the session this Tuesday (20), based on a request by the rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), previously approved by the plenary and put on the agenda by the chairman of the commission, deputy Arthur Maia (União Brasil -BA).

The purpose of Vasques’ testimony is to clarify the events that occurred on October 30, 2022, during the second round of the presidential elections, with a special focus on the blitzes carried out on federal highways. Both the government supporters, who make up the majority in the CPMI, and the opposition had expectations that the first convened could be the former assistant of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid.

However, Arthur Maia chose to dismember the two audiences, starting with the former head of the PRF. Last week, the chairman of the commission admitted weariness due to the fact that no request for a hearing from the opposition was approved, especially the former minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), general Marco Gonçalves Dias, and the current minister of Justice, Flávio Dino .

The rapporteur indicated in her work plan that the first investigations would focus on events prior to the acts of vandalism in Praça dos Três Poderes, in order to establish a chronology of events. She explained that the choice of Silvinei Vasques to testify is due to “the importance of his functions at the time and the possibility of helping in the investigation of possible suspected attacks using federal highways”.

For the meeting on Thursday (22), the hearings of two witnesses related to the attempted bomb attack near Brasília International Airport, on Christmas Eve 2022, will be heard. of the crime, and, subsequently, the expert responsible for preparing the report by the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF), Valdir Pires Dantas Filho. Both had their summons based on the requirements of the rapporteur.
