Former Coritiba and Paraná striker announces retirement

One day after being released from relegated América-MG, and consequently released from the last round of the Brasileirão, striker Wellington Paulista decided to announce his goodbyes from the field. The 40-year-old player must continue working in football.

After playing for América in just 26 games this season, the striker gave up on the idea of ​​looking for a new home and informed GE that he is retiring.

One of the greatest scorers in the history of the Brasileirão in terms of consecutive points, with 109 balls in the opponent’s nets, Wellington Paulista did not like his last season in Belo Horizonte, in which he scored only seven times and lost his place to the Argentine Mastriani.

He left without being missed in América, but with other fans thanking him for the services he provided. Wellington Paulista was greatly appreciated by Cruzeiro and Fortaleza fans this Tuesday, shortly after the announcement of goodbye to the fields. Many wanted to thank him for the services he provided.

Fortaleza even made a post in honor of the center forward. “Our beloved Wellington Paulista announced his retirement from the field today. The striker is the second highest scorer in the history of the Tricolor de Aço in the Brasileirão. We will never forget his goals and his iconic selfies! He will always be remembered, WP9!”, posted the Ceará club.

Wellington Paulista had stints in Paraná and Coritiba

Developed by Mirassol, from the interior of São Paulo, Wellington Paulista played for Juventus-SP and, in 2004, joined Paraná Clube. At the time, the athlete arrived at Vila Capanema with great promise as a top scorer.

However, after 22 matches for Tricolor, the player ended up not finding the net and leaving the club, returning to Juventus-SP. He quickly rose to prominence at the modest São Paulo club and joined Santos for the 2006 season.

From then on, he played for big clubs, such as Botafogo, Palmeiras and Cruzeiro, as well as Alavés, from Spain, and West Ham, from England. In 2015, Wellington defended Coxa, scoring several goals in 15 matches.
