Former candidate for vice-governor, Anne Moura expands political activities

Anne Moura has extensive political experience as National Secretary for Women of the PT

Brasilia DF) – The national secretary of the Workers’ Party (PT), Anne Moura, was unanimously nominated by representatives of 13 parties as coordinator of the National Forum of Instances of Women from Parties, this week, in the Chamber of Deputies in Brasília.

The Amazonian, who accumulates extensive experience within the PT and took the first step in the search for an elective position in the Executive Branch in the last election when she ran for the position of vice-governor of the Government of Amazonas in a ticket structured with the MDB, was chosen by representatives of differentiated parties. Anne Moura was acclaimed by Dora Pires (PSB), Kátia Lobo (MDB), Cristiana Almeida and Mary Cruz (REDE), Niege Todrigues (PSOL), Juliete Matos (Cidadania), Shirley Torres (PV), Daniele Costa (PCdoB, Teresa Nelma (PSD), Cida Santos (Solidariedade), Luciana Loureiro (PSDB), Miguelina Vecchio (PDT) and Lídia Moura (PMN).

“I thank the companions who trusted me to assume this coordination. The Forum is a multiparty space that seeks to articulate, debate and ensure greater participation of women in spaces of power and decision-making. Our goal is to consolidate the advances already achieved, expand achievements and combat gender-based political violence that still distances women from public life. We have a lot of work ahead of us”, said Anne Moura.

Forum

The Forum, founded 17 years ago, fights for the maintenance and expansion of women’s rights. They claim that 30% of party resources as well as radio and TV time be directed to affiliates and candidates. Although female participation has been growing since the first election in which women could vote and be voted in 1932, it is still small compared to the male bench.

In the Chamber of Deputies, in 1933, there was only one elected parliamentarian. Last year, 91 won at the polls and gained positions in the Federal Legislative Branch. Even with the advance, they represent only 17.7% of the total number of federal deputies.

The forum participants argue that several surveys show that the greater participation and election of women increase the social indices of cities and reduce child mortality due to the fact that they have a more sensitive look at the needs of others.

Anne Moura has extensive political experience as the PT’s National Secretary for Women. She was the youngest affiliate to hold the position of National Secretary for Economic Development of the party.

She was responsible for creating the Elas Por Elas Project, which has had a positive impact on the training and development of female candidates. The work made her a reference in Latin America. In addition, she has served as a member of the Foro de São Paulo, the Federation Brasil da Esperança, and the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America (Copppal).
