Attacked by General Walter Braga Netto for not having joined the coup plans in 2022, the former Air Force commander Carlos Baptista Junior began to enjoy, in recent days, messages praising his stance in the episode and publications about returning to the “normality of having a president no fan club” and an end to political polarization in the country.

Baptista Junior was called a “traitor to the country” by the Minister of Defense of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), while the then Army commander, Marco Antônio Freire Gomes, was called a “shit”.

“Sit your dick on Batista Junior [sic]. People suffering, arbitrary acts being done [sic] and he is locked away in perks”, wrote Braga Netto, according to the PF. “Traitor of the country. From then on. It makes his life and his family’s life hell,” he added.

“If we don’t dismantle the polarization, there is no way out”, says one of the messages liked by Baptista Junior. “When are we going to return to normality of having a president without a fan club. Normal nations are like that”, says another.

The former Air Force commander also liked messages from people who congratulated him “for his position of respect for the Brazilian people” and “for having remained firm in his constitutional duty.”

“Democracy admits neutrality, but having a political-ideological side with observance of the rules is part of the game. You are to be congratulated for the firmness with which you observed them”, wrote another user who had the post liked.

In addition to these, he also liked a message from former state deputy Janaina Paschoal who states that “supporters of the current government make the mistake of attributing the blame of coup plotters to the military in a generic way” and that “the Armed Forces exist to prevent authoritarian adventures in our country “.

On Friday (9), the air lieutenant published a message on his social networks in which he reacted to the content revealed by the Federal Police investigation.

“‘Ambition defeats the character of the weak. In fact… it reveals’. Having already passed 60 years of age, I no longer have the right to delude myself with human beings, not even those I considered friends and were defeated by their ambitions” , wrote the former Air Force commander.

In previous weeks, Baptista Júnior concentrated his likes on X on posts critical of the actions of the PF and the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

During the Bolsonaro government, he was criticized for supporting posts in support of the then president. The disciplinary regulations of the Armed Forces consider demonstrations on matters of a party-political nature by active military personnel to be a transgression.

Baptista Junior was also criticized after liking a publication in which federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL-DF) said she had heard from him in a meeting that he was “honoring his vote”. He was the target of a complaint to the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office for his “constant political activism” on social media”, but the case was closed in less than a month, without taking any steps.

In an interview with the newspaper O Globo in 2021, he went so far as to say that a note sent by the commanders of the Armed Forces and Braga Netto to the president of Covid’s CPI, senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), was a “warning to institutions” and that they wouldn’t send 50 notes. Asked if the statement was an attempt at intimidation, he replied that “an armed man does not threaten.”
