This Friday (15), FIFA released its latest update of the women’s ranking of the year. For the first time since September 2019, Brazil is outside the top-10.
In relation to the last list released, four months ago, shortly after the end of the World Cup, the Brazilian team ended up falling two positions, from ninth place to 11th. Brazil has never been in a position below this. His best placing was in 2009, when he reached second place.
Since the end of the Women’s World Cup, in which Brazil was eliminated in the group stage, the team has played five friendlies. There were three wins and two defeats.
Despite the drop, Brazil remains the best placed South American country on the list. The second best on the continent is Colombia, which is in 23rd place. Argentina is 31st.
Sweden had a drastic fall in these four months, going from the lead to fifth place. World Cup winner Spain took first place, followed by the United States and France.
Now, the next ranking update will be published in March 2024.
