Before starting the Brasileirão, they always say that it is the most balanced in the world. As the technical equality of the teams is frequent, the victories are very close to the defeats. Therefore, some teams can win and then lose several games in a row without changing their performance.

When that happens, countless technical, tactical, physical, emotional explanations arise, even if they have little or no importance. Commentators love finding egg hairs. Who pays the duck is the coach, with the hope that the substitute will bring the key to victory.

After the first six rounds of the Brasileirão, which is too little to make definitive analyses, the positive surprises are Botafogo and Cruzeiro, led by Portuguese coaches Luís Castro and Pepa. The two teams are similar, in terms of intensity, the pressure to recover the ball and the speed of the moves towards the goal.

Portuguese coaches are generally very scientific and pragmatic. In addition, they give good explanations in interviews. They contribute to improving the quality of Brazilian football.

Pepa, at Cruzeiro, and Dorival Júnior, at São Paulo, contradict the commonplace that coaches need a lot of time to form a good team. Time is important, but so is the union of players of different styles who complement each other and who have the ideal characteristics to carry out the strategies of the coaches.

América and Corinthians are the negative surprises in the Brasileirão. America, in last place, only has one point. The team kept the coach, most of the players and the style of play from last year, when they had a great campaign. Has America been playing balanced games and losing in the details, which would increase the chances of having several consecutive victories?

At Corinthians, there is a clear reason, the frequent change of coaches, for the team to be in the relegation zone, even with several players of excellent quality. Social networks, supported by the board and by other opinions, were more concerned with the mannerisms and clothes of coach Sylvinho and the tense face of Fernando Lázaro in interviews than with the attitudes and tactics of the two young coaches, who are very well prepared and could evolve with the team.

Roger Machado, a coach with great ideas and firm positions, was also passed over with the justification that he had not yet had success in his career, as if it were easy to be champion in such balanced championships. Luxembourg is the hope for its victorious past, as if it had the key to victories. So far, nothing has changed. In interviews, Luxemburgo, as always, wants to outsmart the smarts.

São Paulo was much better than Corinthians and just didn’t win because of the referee’s mistakes. Differently from what happened with the team led by Rogerio Ceni, who was rushed and confused to reach the goal, Dorival Júnior brought the players closer together in midfield, who exchanged more passes and involved the opponent.

On average, games in Brazil are intense and with a lot of pressure to recover the ball, which is very good. But there is a lack of lucidity in the decisions and success in the passes. Football is the union of tactical discipline and improvisation, collective and individual talent, mastery of the ball and the field, prose and poetry. Paraphrasing the great poet Ferreira Gullar, art football and a beautiful, well-played game are essential because the result is not enough.
