The Volkswagen Polo GTS 1.4 turbo (150 hp) passed the Folha-Mauá test again. The reason for the return is in the environmental legislation.

As with other models in the current assessment cycle, the VW sports hatch was adapted to the seventh phase of Proconve (Program for the Control of Air Pollution by Motor Vehicles).

The return to the evaluations resulted in another good result in the performance tests of the Compact category (Sedans and Hatches). The GTS was the fastest in the measurements made by the IMT (Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia) with both ethanol and gasoline.

The sports car will undergo minor visual changes – such as the adoption of a new logo in the center of the trunk lid, among other details. Line 2024 is on its way to stores. The price has not still been published.

Another version of the Polo stood out among the compacts. The 1.0 liter turbo option with manual transmission (R$ 99,000) was the most economical model in its category in the city when fueled with ethanol. In road use, it was the one that spent less on gasoline.

The sedan Hyundai HB20S 1.0 turbo automatic (120 hp, from R$ 110.9 thousand) had the best average consumption in urban areas when fueled with gasoline. On the road, with ethanol, the best result in terms of fuel consumption was registered by the Fiat Argo Trekking 1.3 (R$ 92 thousand).

HOW TESTS ARE DONE

To measure the performance of the cars, the Mauá Institute of Technology uses the V-Box, equipment that uses a GPS signal. The acceleration and resumption tests are carried out on the track owned by the company ZF, in Limeira (inland São Paulo).

The stage that verifies consumption in the city is 27 km long. To simulate a road trip at 90 km/h, the test drivers drive for 31 km.

Both routes are in São Caetano do Sul (ABC), where the institute’s headquarters are located. If the car is flex-fuel, two measurements are made: one with ethanol, the other with gasoline.

The consumption of electric models is measured using the charger installed in the IMT. The test calculates the cost to travel 100 km in urban and highway modes.
