According to Argentine journalist Fernando Czyz, Flamengo is negotiating with Spanish player Sergio Ramos, 37, formerly of PSG and Real Madrid, to compete in the final stretch of the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship.
According to Czyz, a reporter for the Doble Amarilla website, the club from Rio “had three communications with Sergio Ramos and, in the last one, he warned that he would make a formal offer”.
Another team that would be interested in the defender is Al Ahly, from Saudi Arabia, according to the journalist. Ramos has already ruled out joining Lionel Messi at Inter Miami and returning to the team that revealed him, Sevilla.
According to Czyz, the club from Rio wants to convince Ramos to try to be the first European to win both the Champions League and the Libertadores, joining Brazilians like Ronaldinho, Cafu and Dida, as well as Argentine Julián Álvarez.
Who is Sergio Ramos?
Considered one of the best defenders in the world, Ramos is an idol for Real Madrid, a team he defended for 16 years, from 2005 to 2021.
With the Meringues, he won 22 titles, including four Champions, four Club World Cups and five Spanish titles.
The player played four World Cups for Spain, including the only edition won by the European team, in 2010. He was also in the 2008 and 2012 Euro Cup titles.
He was revealed by Sevilla, his hometown club, where he played from 2004 to 2005. His transfer to Real Madrid cost € 27 million at the time (about R$ 145 million at current prices).
In July 2021, Ramos signed with Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal. His contract was not renewed in 2023, and he has been without a club since June.
