Ângela Machado, Director of Social Responsibility at Flamengo and wife of President Rodolfo Landim, was indicted for the crime of racism after attacking northeasterners last year.
Ângela made a publication on social networks in which she made pejorative insinuations towards northeasterners.
The post took place after the presidential election, in which Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won over Jair Bolsonaro last year.
“We win where it produces, we lose where you go on vacation. Let’s work because if the cattle die, the tick goes hungry”, she wrote.
According to the Rio Civil Police, “according to the Police Station for Racial Crimes and Intolerance Crimes (Decradi), the investigation was completed and reported to the Public Ministry with the indictment of the author for the crime of racism”. The information was initially given by g1 and confirmed by UOL.
At the time, the publication generated reactions from part of the fans and groups of members, who questioned the leadership and asked for the employee to be removed.
Days after the post, Rodolfo Landim defended Angela saying that she had “the right to take a stand”.
THE CASE
In November last year, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) began to consider acts that discriminate against Brazilians living in the Northeast as a crime of racism.
Provided for in Law No. 9,459/97, it covers those who may practice, induce, incite discrimination or prejudice based on race, color, ethnicity, religion or national origin. Anyone who commits xenophobia is liable to imprisonment from one to three years and a fine.
The text was posted the day after the election results.
The same text circulated in some Bolsonarist groups shortly after Lula’s victory.
In other posts, Ângela always showed support for President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and campaigned openly for re-election.
A day later, she closed the Instagram account.
Lula obtained 69.34% of the votes in the Northeast, while Jair Bolsonaro won in the other regions of the country.
