Tite’s signing is close to being made official by Flamengo. Over the weekend, the Rio board met with Gilmar Veloz, the coach’s manager, progress in negotiations and, finally, the coach will sign the contract with Rubro-Negro. The bond will be valid until December 2024.
The progress in negotiations and the agreement was initially reported by journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, from “UOL”. Talks between Tite and Flamengo began two weeks ago, after the runner-up of the Copa do Brasil and the dismissal of Jorge Sampaoli, who was the team’s coach for almost six months.
During this period, Flamengo played two games under the interim command of Mario Jorge: they beat Bahia and drew with Corinthians. In the midst of the FIFA date, Tite will take over Flamengo in fifth place in the Brazilian Championship, with 44 points. The next game is against Cruzeiro, on October 19, in Belo Horizonte.
Tite’s career
At 62 years old, Tite will have his first experience of Rio football, but he has already adapted and has lived in Rio de Janeiro with his family for years.
In three remarkable spells at Corinthians, the coach won a Libertadores, a Club World Cup and two Brazilian Championships. At Grêmio, he was champion of the Copa do Brasil. At Internacional, he won the Copa Sudamericana. He also has spells at Palmeiras and Atlético-MG, among other clubs.
Outside of Brazil, Tite managed Al-Wahda and Al-Ain, both from the United Arab Emirates. His greatest international experience was in charge of the Brazilian team. Between June 2016 and December 2022, the coach defended Amarelinha in 81 games, managing the team in the World Cups in Russia and Qatar, being eliminated in the quarterfinals in both.
