The fire department continues the search for three residents of the city of Caraá (RS) and two crew members of a fishing boat from Garopaba (SC) missing since last Friday (16) due to an extratropical cyclone that hit both states.
The weather phenomenon caused the death of 13 people in Rio Grande do Sul, mainly between the mountainous region and the North coast. In all, 2.1 million were affected in 41 municipalities, mainly in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, where there are 3,700 people homeless and 697 displaced by the intense rains.
The deaths were recorded in the cities of Maquiné, São Leopoldo, Esteio, Novo Hamburgo, Gravataí, Caraá, Bom Principle and São Sebastião do Caí.
The government of Rio Grande do Sul installed a crisis office to deal with a coordinated action plan between municipalities and the office of Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), which will focus efforts on humanitarian aid and recovery of basic services in the affected cities. Leite should go to Brasília this week in search of Union resources.
Over the weekend, the Ministers of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, and the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Paulo Pimenta, were in both states.
In Santa Catarina, there is no record of deaths or homeless or homeless people. The water that flooded the municipalities has already gone down and the cities that had landslides are already recovering these places, according to the ministry.
