fiftieth anniversary restaurant collects romantic stories

One of the first restaurants in Curitiba to serve by candlelight – which made it famous as one of the city’s favorites -, the 50th anniversary Cantina Baviera has a table called the Valentine’s Table. The title came from so many meetings and marriage proposals that have already taken place in this corner of the mezzanine, next to the wood oven where the establishment’s traditional onion soup is finished.

This table – write it down, it’s number 10 – was the scene of important love story scenes for some people from Curitiba. Including the current owner of the house, businessman Márcio Borges. It was there that he began his romance with his wife, Thayana Hey.

“When I met Márcio, he insisted a lot on us going out together. I was very apprehensive because we didn’t have any friends in common. After two months of much insistence, I accepted the invitation. Then he said he would take me to his favorite restaurant, Baviera . We sat at the table in the corner of the oven mezzanine, table 10. It was the beginning of our story. Today, we have two children and a life together”, recalls Thayana, who today plays for Baviera alongside Borges.

Inspired by the romanticism of the place – and by the difficulties that some customers went through -, the couple created a special package of tables set for lovers in Bavaria.

“Right at the beginning, when we took over the restaurant, a customer reserved the table and arrived early to decorate. He bought flowers, did some tidying… And I saw how nervous he was doing that montage. I called Thay and told her : we need to do something to make life easier for those who want something special. So, we created ambiance packages”, says the businessman.

Photos of the couple, bouquets of roses and flower petals on the table can be part of the setting. To request the service, which ranges from R$250 to R$390, you need to book a few hours in advance. For that night of June 12, there are no more times available for tables with this service. But there will be free tables, without reservations, for couples who decided to enjoy the night of romance at the last minute.

The businessman asked the house’s clients to report their romantic stories in Bavaria. These reports, sent via social networks to the restaurant, were shared with the Good Gourmet. Check out three stories selected by our team below and get inspired on this special day!

flowers and truffles

“In 2009, I made a surprise for my boyfriend, who is now my husband, in Bavaria. I said I would like something special. So, I bought flowers, lots of truffles and, as agreed, I sent them by motoboy. That table at the top was reserved for the surprise. It was magical, the table was beautiful. To this day he remembers that moment. We love this place.” Daniela Domanski

A meeting for a lifetime

My parents met in Bavaria in 1979. My mother skipped college to have dinner with a friend, my father was there with friends. In April 1980 they were living together. They spent 26 years together. He passed away in 2005, she now, in 2021… they stayed together forever.Najla Korny

Eternal lovers

“Baviera has always been our favorite restaurant. I was 14 years old and my husband 17 years old when we met and started dating. Every year, for 9 years of dating, on Valentine’s Day we went to Bavaria. we continue to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Bavaria! We love forever and ever.” Fernanda Mello
