49-year-old coach seeks first international title of his career
Fluminense beat Internacional 2-1 this Wednesday (4), at Beira-Rio, in Porto Alegre, in the Copa Libertadores semi-final. Thus, Tricolor das Laranjeiras is in the grand final of the tournament. It will be coach Fernando Diniz’s first decision.
Diniz, 49 years old, has been at Fluminense since 2022. In this second spell, he has accumulated 100 games in charge (with a further 42 in the first period, in 2019). Diniz commanded Flu throughout the Libertadores campaign.
He was leader of group D, beating River Plate-ARG, Sporting Cristal-PER and The Strongest-BOL. In the knockout stages, they went through Argentinos Jrs-ARG, Olimpia-PAR and Internacional.
The coach is looking for the first continental title of his career. Diniz was Rio champion for Fluminense in 2023. It is the only title won by the commander in his career.
