After eight months of negotiations with the Lula government without agreement on the demands for salary adjustment and career restructuring, the National Union of Basic, Professional and Technological Education Servers (Sinasefe) announced the launch of a national strike for indefinite period from Wednesday (3). The date will be marked by acts and mobilizations across the country.

According to the National Union of Teachers of Higher Education Institutions (Andes-SN), “at the last meeting of the National Permanent Negotiation Table, the MGI (Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services), represented by secretary José Lopez Feijóo , reaffirmed the government’s proposal for a 0% adjustment for 2024”.

“On the other hand, the union bench expressed indignation at the government’s lethargy. The unions also emphasized that the proposed salary freeze in 2024 is unacceptable and disrespectful to the categories”, says another excerpt from the Andes-SN statement.

After the government’s denials, unionists decided to incorporate April 3rd into the calendar of acts and strikes already scheduled for the month of April.

“The fight calendar is fundamental at a time when the Union has broken a revenue record, its highest performance since 1995,” he said in a note to the Forum of National Entities of Federal Public Servants (Fonasefe).

The national strike at federal universities, institutes and federal centers (Cefets) is already scheduled to begin on April 15th. The decision was announced on March 22 by the Federal Education Institutions (Ife) sector of Andes-SN. Unionists hold the Lula government responsible for the “precarious working conditions” of teachers.

On April 16, a public hearing will be held in the Chamber of Deputies on the civil servants’ demands. The hearing was requested by deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP).

The following day, unionists will meet in Brasília (DF) for a march for wage recovery. On April 18th, each category will carry out specific acts of mobilization.
