FDA only recognized the physician’s authority to prescribe ivermectin off-label – 08/26/2023 – Health

It is not true that the FDA agency, which regulates and supervises food and medicine in the United States, authorized the treatment of Covid-19 with ivermectin. Posts with misleading information take out of context the speech of a lawyer from the regulatory agency at a court hearing on the 8th of this month.

When asked whether the agency was interfering with physicians’ prerogative to prescribe medication off-label, when a drug is indicated to a patient for a purpose not officially recommended by regulatory agencies, she said, according to The Epoch Times website: “The FDA recognizes explicitly that physicians have the authority to prescribe ivermectin to treat Covid.”

The statement, as verified by Projeto Comprova, concerns the doctor-patient relationship, and does not mean that the FDA has approved the use of ivermectin for the treatment or prevention of Covid-19. The list of approved Covid drugs on the FDA website does not include ivermectin. The same happens in relation to the recommendations of WHO (World Health Organization) and Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), in Brazil.

For Comprova, misleading is content removed from the original context and used in another so that its meaning undergoes changes; that uses inaccurate data or that induces an interpretation different from the author’s intention; content that is confusing, with or without the deliberate intent to cause harm.
