Fapeam encourages the development of research on the Amazon around the world

Manaus (AM) — The Amazonas State Research Support Foundation (Fapeam) is among the five science funding agencies that most finance the development of research on the Amazon in the world. The achievement was one of the agendas of the ordinary meeting, held this Thursday (15).

During the meeting, Fapeam’s Superior Council approved the institution’s accountability for the 2022 financial year. The meeting was led by the Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Innovation of the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation ( Sedecti) and president of the Superior Council, Serafim Fernandes Corrêa.

The meeting was attended by the following advisors: Kely Patrícia Paixão Silva, Maria de Meneses Pereira, Kátia Luz Torres Silva, Patrícia Melchionna Albuquerque, Euler Guimarães Menezes de Souza, Antônia Maria Ramos Franco, Solange Dourado de Andrade and Sérgio Luiz Bessa Luz. In addition to the Fapeam managers, Márcia Perales Mendes Silva (presidential director), Marcia Irene Andrade Mavignier (technical-scientific director) and Maria Raizidora de Oliveira Zurra (administrative-financial director).

Márcia Perales presented the investments and actions developed by Fapeam in 2022, highlighting that in that year 32 public calls were offered, as well as full budget execution for the year and approval of the regularity of accounts by the control bodies.

“Fapeam is a Foundation that has grown a lot and is respected for the investments made and the consistency of these investments. We have an important commitment: to apply resources in accordance with their lines of action, with the strategic areas defined in the Government’s Multi-Year Plan 2020-2023, with the demands brought by researchers and teaching and research institutions, and that science, technology and innovation reaches all municipalities in the state, directly or indirectly”,

stressed the CEO.

Achievements

Since 2022, Fapeam has been among the best Research Support Foundations (Faps) in Brazil, in relation to the values ​​of master’s and doctorate scholarships, since all scholarships were readjusted from January of this year.

Amazonas ranks 1st in Brazil among all federative units, in offering master’s and doctorate scholarships, capital and interior, with exclusive resources from the State Treasury.

Investments

In 2022, the State Government invested, through Fapeam, more than R$116 million in notices, public calls and resolutions to promote projects in the state, seeking to directly benefit numerous institutions and enabling the launch of 32 programs, of which 12 are unpublished.

The new programs were: Postdoctoral Support Program (Prodoc/Fapeam); Women of Waters Program/Fapeam; Kunhã Program – C,T&I in Amazonas; Technological Innovation Research Support Program – Innovation in the Amazon; Forest Business Program – PNF/Fapeam; Support Program for the Development of Production Chains in the State of Amazonas – PDCA/AM; Support Program for Collaborative Projects in RD&I – PD&I Fapeam; Fapeam Program – Startup for the SUS; Fapeam Productivity in ST&I Program; Popularization and Dissemination Support Program for CT&I – PAPD/Fapeam; Public Call Amazon Initiative +10; Professional and Technological Education Program – Proept/Fapeam; Technological Innovation Research Support Program – Sustainable Mining Research Networks – Papintec/Sustainable Mining.

The training of highly qualified human resources, through the Stricto Sensu Postgraduate Support Program (Posgrad), was highlighted in the presentation, as in 2022 it received an investment of more than R$35 million, which contributed to the 2019 By 2023, the number of masters and doctors with degrees would reach 1,702, of which 1,334 were masters and 368 were doctors.

Another public call was from the Support Program for Interiorization in Research and Technological Innovation in Amazonas (Painter+), which approved 24 proposals and reached, during 2022, eight municipalities in the interior of the State, namely: Coari, Humaitá, Itacoatiara , Maués, Parintins, Presidente Figueiredo, Tabatinga and Tefé.

The meeting

After the presentation, the agenda of the Ordinary Meeting of the Superior Council continued with the deliberation and approval of matters, reappointment of the Technical-Scientific Board and statements by the counselors.

Advisor Antonia Maria Ramos Franco Pereira, researcher at the National Institute for Amazon Research (Inpa), emphasized the importance of the Foundation for the scientific development of Amazonas and highlighted the evolution of Fapeam over the years. “I want to congratulate and thank you for being here these five years and being part of this history together with you,” she said.

Sérgio Luiz Bessa Luz, member of the Superior Council of Fapeam and researcher at the Leônidas & Maria Deane Institute (ILMD/Fiocruz Amazônia) congratulated Fapeam’s work during all these years of success in the state.

Patrícia Melchionna Albuquerque, researcher at the State University of Amazonas (UEA), highlighted that the experience as a member of the Superior Council is a great learning experience. “I had the opportunity to learn a lot more about Fapeam, to be very proud of the team’s work”, she highlighted.

The meeting ended with all agendas discussed and approved.
