Fans protest at CT and Luxa acts as a “shield”

A group of Corinthians fans gathered on Saturday morning (6), in front of CT Joaquim Grava, to protest against the bad phase of the team. The club’s main organizations chanted in protest and coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo ended up acting as a kind of shield to get around the situation.

He went to the protesters to talk to the leaders and calm the mood. The protest started at 10 am since Saturday and ended around 12:30 pm.

The military police were present at the act and everything happened peacefully. This demonstration, which focused on criticizing the management of President Duilio Monteiro Alves, had already been announced during the week. Photos of Duilio were displayed pasted on coffin lids. Football manager Alessandro Nunes and physical trainer Flávio de Oliveira, blamed for the poor performance of the players, were also targets.

Calling for the demonstration, Gaviões da Fiel, the club’s main organized supporters, mentions the group “Renovação e Transparência”, in charge of the club since 2007 and currently led by president Duilio Monteiro Alves, as the main responsible for the bad phase of the team.

“We know very well who are primarily responsible for this situation and we came to demand and boost the team’s reaction, but mainly to point out the incompetence led by yet another ‘Renovation and Transparency’ management”, wrote the fans.

Tracks with phrases like “the choir will eat” and “Corinthians is not a joke” were laid out on the containment bars. Among the players, Luan was the main target of the fans, who demanded more will from the squad.

“Honor the shirt, Corinthians doesn’t need a bum” was one of the chants shouted by the protesters. Wanderlei Luxemburgo, the team’s coach since the beginning of the month, left the CT to talk to the protest leaders.

Corinthians has two fundamental defeats for the protest call. A setback against arch-rivals Palmeiras by 2-1 for the Brazilian Championship and another for Independiente Del Valle, by the same score, but for Libertadores, in the middle of Neo Química Arena.

Before the two results, however, the climate was not good. The club experienced very troubled days after removing Fernando Lázaro from the position of coach and hiring Cuca to replace him. The conviction for rape to which Cuca was subjected in the 1980s, in Switzerland, triggered strong demonstrations by the fans against the hiring and he ended up fired after less than a week of being announced. Luxemburgo was chosen to try to put order in the house.

Corinthians is only 17th in the national tournament, with only 3 points in three rounds played. The situation is also bad in the South American tournament. The team from São Paulo is only second in the group, also with 3 points.
