The exhibition and sale stand for indigenous handicrafts and family farming at the 45th ExpoAgro of the State Foundation of Indigenous Peoples of Amazonas (Fepiam) has attracted visitors to discover ‘Cachaça do Índio’, an artisanal alcoholic drink made from regional ingredients, such as sugarcane juice, marapuama, manacam, mirantã, jambu and guaraná, produced by indigenous people from the Tauamirim village, in the municipality of Tapauá (449 kilometers from Manaus).

The acting CEO of Fepiam, Carlos Alexandre, highlights cachaça as a reflection of the talent and production potential of the indigenous peoples of Amazonas.

“There is enormous value in the knowledge and work of our artisan relatives; they make products with great quality and commitment to share with visitors to the largest sustainable agricultural fair, the wisdom of centuries of indigenous history”,

says Alexander.

The stand offers products originating from indigenous ethnicities in the state of Amazonas, including Cachaça do Índio, manufactured by artisan and journalist Yuri Magno, from the Sateré-Mawé ethnic group, which is made with natural products at the Yandé Muraki Indigenous Entrepreneurship Center , which is an initiative by Fepiam.

“Indian cachaça is part of indigenous medicine along with a series of other products that we manufacture such as creams, perfumes, shampoos and ointments. It is made with the knowledge that I received in the village since I was 13 years old”,

Magno pointed out.

Joabe Leonam, technical director of Fepiam, highlighted the importance of indigenous cachaça to enhance indigenous culture.

“Indian cachaça is an ancestral drink that has been part of indigenous culture and medicine for centuries. It is a great opportunity for ExpoAgro visitors to learn a little more about our culture and knowledge”, stated Leonam.

Leonam also highlighted the potential of Indian cachaça to generate income and autonomy for indigenous peoples.

“Indian cachaça is a high quality product that has the potential to be sold throughout Brazil and abroad. It is a great opportunity for indigenous peoples to generate income and autonomy”,

concluded Leonam.

In addition to indigenous cachaça, Fepiam’s stand at ExpoAgro also offers a variety of other indigenous products, such as handicrafts, jewelry, clothing, drinks and family farming. The stand will remain open until Sunday (10), the last day of the 45th Amazonas Agricultural Exhibition.
