What the tests are like On the first day, in addition to the essay, candidates answer 45 questions from multiple language schools and another 45 from human sciences. According to course teachers, in the language section, some of the most recurrent topics in the latest editions of Enem were discourse analysis, text interpretation, textual structure and lexical mastery (vocabulary). Check out more topics that usually appear in the language test here. In the human sciences tests, the subjects that appear every year in Enem are History from the time of Colonial Brazil, agrarian geography and modern philosophy. See more topics on the human sciences test here. On the second day, candidates answer 45 mathematics questions and another 45 natural sciences questions. Teachers’ tips: In the final stretch for Enem, a suggested strategy is to take old tests and try to solve them within the exam’s maximum deadline. Another recommendation is not to try to learn something completely new, but to review subjects with which you are already more familiar to secure points. Six techniques that can boost your studies Correction: is it worth it? Questions are corrected using a mathematical model called Item Response Theory (IRT). The test is prepared with questions pre-classified as easy, medium and difficult. The candidate is expected to perform better in the simpler ones. The TRI carries out a statistical analysis, “anti-guessing”, to calculate a final score that indicates whether there was consistency in the responses. An example: suppose there is, in Enem, a question about how much is 3 times 2. The candidate makes a mistake and answers 5, instead of 6. Another question asks the student to calculate the area of a rectangle whose base measures 3 cm and the height, 2 cm. He answers correctly: 6 cm². According to the TRI, even getting the most difficult question right, the student would score fewer points. This is because, if he was unable to multiply the first question, he would have no way of knowing the answer to the second. In other words: you probably “guessed” the answer. Writing Knowing the five skills required in writing the Enem can be a valuable asset to guarantee a good performance and, who knows, even the maximum score of a thousand points. Each competency is worth 200 points and, in general, they assess the following: Competence 1 – Mastery of the formal form of the Portuguese language. Competence 2 – Understanding the writing proposal, with the use of concepts from various areas of knowledge, to develop the theme, within the structural limits of the dissertation-argumentative text in prose. Competence 3 – Organization and interpretation of information, facts, opinions and arguments in defense of a point of view. Competence 4 – Knowledge of linguistic mechanisms to construct an argument. Competence 5 – Preparation of an intervention proposal for the problem addressed, respecting human rights. Fatal errors that ruin the essay There are at least 7 errors that can be fatal in the essay, leaving the candidate only the dreaded zero: Evasion of the topic Disobedience to the dissertation format Blank paper or with less than 7 lines Copy of motivating texts Drawings and inappropriate graphic signs Disjointed or signed parts Text written in a foreign language or in illegible handwriting Guesses about essay topics It is difficult to predict the topic of the essay, but, based on experience from previous years, teachers interviewed by g1 give some guesses, such as : artificial intelligence; Work similar to slavery; Climate changes; Digital exclusion; Children’s rights; Indigenous lands and Temporal Framework. Enem 2023: artificial intelligence is the main focus of teachers for the essay topic; controversies, such as abortion, should be left out Draft sheet for the essay The Enem test notebook has a draft sheet for the essay (see image below). It is an essential space for students to plan their text carefully, re-read what they have written and make changes until everything is clear. One tip, in fact, is to make a “draft of the draft”: use the margins of the page to write down the first ideas of what will be written in the text, such as: the thesis defended; the main arguments that will support this position; the cultural repertoires that will be used (quotes from films or writers, for example); the chosen intervention proposal (with agent, action, mode, means, purpose and details of what can solve the problem presented). Black rectangles show space options for the student to write the ‘draft draft’ of the essay Reproduction/Inep How the essay is corrected The essay will be evaluated by at least two teachers graduated in Literature or Linguistics, independently, without that one knows the grade given by the other. Each evaluator will give a grade between 0 and 200 points for each of the five competencies. The participant’s final grade will be the arithmetic average of the total grades awarded by the two evaluators. If there is a discrepancy between the grades, with a difference of more than 100 points in total or more than 80 points in any of the skills, the essay will be evaluated, independently, by a third evaluator. The final grade will be the arithmetic average of the two total grades that are closest. If the discrepancy still persists, the essay will be evaluated by a panel made up of three teachers, who will give the final grade. What is the Enem score for? Enem grades can guarantee a place in a Brazilian public or private higher education institution and even in colleges outside the country. Check out how they can be used in each situation. Sisu: The Unified Selection System (Sisu) is the means by which the Ministry of Education (MEC) selects students for places in higher education courses at public institutions. To compete for a place, the candidate must be within the cutoff score for the course in question, that is, they must have obtained a grade equal to or greater than the minimum grade defined for that course. Prouni: The University for All Program (Prouni) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education that offers full and partial scholarships at private colleges. Fies: The Student Financing Fund (Fies) is a federal government program that pays part of the tuition fees for students at private universities and colleges, with the beneficiaries paying back the financing after graduation. The credit may cover all or part of the course’s monthly fee. To register, you must have taken the Enem. Private institutions: Many higher education institutions also offer discounts on monthly fees using the Enem score. Generally, the candidate does not need to take the university’s own entrance exam. The ideal is to look for the institution to find out if they offer scholarships and discounts depending on the exam score and what the requirements are. International universities: The Ministry of Education has an agreement with some institutions in countries such as Portugal, England, France, Ireland and Canada, which accept Enem in their selection process. In some cases, the institution may require the interested party to go through the local selection process. You need to search directly on the universities’ website. EDUCATION VIDEOS
