Seminar will discuss the preservation of streams in Manaus

Manaus (AM) — The length of the streams in Manaus reaches around 70 km, and the disorderly occupation of the banks, the low infrastructure and the lack of monitoring of water quality have generated unsanitary conditions, contributing to the spread of water-borne diseases. Given this scenario, the Court of Auditors of Amazonas (TCE-AM), through the School of Public Accounts (ECP), and the Public Ministry of Accounts (MPC) will promote a seminar to discuss the preservation of streams in Manaus.

The event will take place in the TCE-AM auditorium, on March 20th, from 8am to 12pm, and will bring together authorities, experts and members of civil society to discuss emergency measures in the face of the serious situation of environmental degradation of water resources.

Registration for the seminar is free and open to civil society, and can be made on the website ecpvirtual.tce.am.gov.br.

The seminar, which will take place during Water Week 2024, aims to stimulate discussion about the degradation of streams and the lack of adequate sanitation, in addition to identifying recovery and governance projects and initiatives.

Schedule

The seminar program will include lectures and debates with renowned experts in the environmental field, divided into two different panels. The first of them will focus on institutional actions, and the second on the presentation of cases that exemplify the discussions.

In the first panel, Daniel Nava, from the Amazonas Environmental Protection Institute (IPAAM); Sergio Duvosin, from the State University of Amazonas; Carlos Sandro Carvalho, from Prof-Água/UEA; Eduardo Taveira, Secretary of State for the Environment, and Ademir Stroski, Municipal Secretary for the Environment and Sustainability, will discuss topics such as monitoring streams, the challenges of public water resources policy and planning for municipal sanitation will be addressed by the speakers.

The second panel of lectures will feature Thiago Flores, a professional in water resources regulation management; Alexandre Rivas, general director of ECP; Jadson Maciel, president of the Tarumã Basin Committee; and Jó Fernandes Farah, president of the NGO Mata Viva.
