Programming includes lectures, conversation circles, debates, raffles, book launch and the screening of the documentary “Dona Maria, where is your poetry?”

Manaus (AM) – Debating sexual violence against women in the academic environment and in personal relationships is the main objective of the meeting “Knowing to Resist, Exist and Live”, which will take place this Thursday, March 7, from 8 am to 6 pm, at the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), located at Av. General Rodrigo Otávio, 1.200, Coroado I neighborhood. Registration is free through the link.

Held in honor of International Women’s Day, celebrated this Friday, March 8, the meeting is promoted by the Study, Research and Social Observatory Group: Gender, Politics and Power (Gepos) and will take place in the Rio Solimões auditorium, at the Institute of Philosophy, Human and Social Sciences (IFCHS), located in the North sector of Ufam.

One of the event organizers, professor Dr. Iraildes Caldas Torres, explains more about the importance of the topic. “Harassment is when the attacker attacks the woman, because it causes embarrassment and compromises her freedom to come and go at university. So, she deviates from the route, does not enter certain places. There is a restriction [de liberdade]because this happens every day”, he comments.

The program begins, at 8:30 am, with a debate on the topic “Moral and sexual harassment at universities as expressions of violence against women”.

The participants will be the rector of UFAM, Dr. Sylvio Mário Puga; the Dr. in Social Sciences and leader of Gepos, Iraildes Caldas Torres; the MSc. in Social Service, Keliene Ferreira dos Santos; the representative of the Amazonas Women’s Solidarity Movement (MUSAS), Florismar Ferreira; in addition to the History student and general secretary of the State Union of Students of Amazonas (UEE-AM), Sued Félix Ruiz.

Then, at 9:30 am, the public follows the main conference with three themes: “Moral and sexual harassment in the university environment”, presented by Dr. Iraildes Caldas Torres; “Sexual harassment as an expression of violence against women”, discussed by MSc. in Social Service, Rayane de Oliveira Viana; and “Welcoming and confronting moral and sexual harassment at UFAM”, with the member of the Commission to Combat Moral Harassment at UFAM (Cecam), Dr. Ronaldo Vitorino Bastos.

At 11:30 am, the morning debates end with mediation by Dr. in Society and Culture in the Amazon, Adson Bulhões. In the afternoon, from 1pm, the documentary “Dona Maria, where is your poetry?” will be shown.

Then, at 2pm, there will be a conversation “Symbolic violence against women and the idea of ​​romantic love”. The moment will receive the MSc. Elisiane Andrade, who will address “Symbolic violence against women”; Dr. Alice Ponce de Leão, discussing “Violent maritalities and the myth of romantic love”; and master’s student Gabriel Machado, problematizing “Is new ways of loving possible?”

At 4pm, the event moves towards a mediated debate between the MSc. Sofia Oliveira and master’s student Paula Litaiff. The meeting will end with prize draws and a cocktail for participants.

A way of telling the world that we live to be happy. We don’t want to be killed by our companions. We will address this and other forms of violence on Thursday. Come with us”,
