Erika Hilton and Henrique Vieira will join the CPI of 1/8 – 05/09/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

The deputies Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) and Pastor Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ) were confirmed this Tuesday (9) as the names that will be indicated by the federation formed by PSOL and Rede to integrate the CPMI (Mixed Parliamentary Commission) of January 8 coup acts. Hilton will be in the starting line-up, and Vieira will be his alternate.

With the duo, the federation hopes to give visibility to segments that have not seen themselves represented in emblematic parliamentary committees, such as the CPI of Covid, and oppose narratives that associate evangelicals with anti-democratic postures and authoritarianism.

The presence of Erika Hilton will mark the first time in history that a CPMI is integrated by a transvestite. In last year’s election, she was one of the first trans women elected to the Chamber of Deputies and the ninth candidate that received the most votes in the state of São Paulo.

Rookie in politics, pastor Henrique Vieira, in turn, is part of the progressive minority of religion.

As member and substitute, both will have practically the same rights before the commission, being able to present requests for summons, register their speeches during the works of the CPMI, among others.

The opposition has been articulating for months for the opening of the commission, with the expectation of exposing the Lula government’s theory of inaction against the January 8 attacks. It should take place in parallel with the ongoing investigation by the Police into the coup acts.

The Lula government estimates a contingent of 20 to 22 parliamentarians allied to the CPMI, which has a total of 32 members.
