Entities ask for measures to give women more voice – 06/11/2023 – Panel

Seven entities that defend greater participation of women in politics decided last week to present a list of legislative priorities to Congress.

Among them is the reservation of at least 30% of seats for federal, state and councilors, half of which are occupied by black women.

Another proposed measure is to constitutionalize the allocation of resources from electoral and party funds to candidates of black women and men.

Proposals are jointly supported by the entities Conecta, I want you elected, They ask for a view, Let’s go together, Black women decide, The candidates’ tent and the Observatory of women’s political violence.

In the case of the Judiciary, the demand is to ensure that at least the women who already occupy vacancies in the superior courts and federal regional courts are succeeded by women and blacks.

The entities also ask that the next vacancy on the Federal Supreme Court be occupied by a black jurist with a history of defending human rights.

They claim to be inspired by the so-called “lipstick lobby”, which defended women’s agendas in the 1988 Constituent Assembly.

This time, the movement began because of opposition to the amnesty that political parties intend to grant themselves for not respecting the minimum funding limits for candidacies of women and blacks.
