Enem 2023 criticizes private property and associates Agro with violence

After the controversy over the alleged leak of Enem 2023 tests, new criticisms have emerged regarding the type of content of the questions presented in the first phase of the exam that took place this weekend. In addition to bringing critical texts to private property, Enem associated agribusiness with violence in the countryside and the advance of deforestation.

In one of the questions, the test features an article published in 2021, in the Élisée magazine of the State University of Goiás (UEG), in which the authors question the “logic of agribusiness”.

“In the cerrado, local knowledge is increasingly being subordinated to the logic of agribusiness. On the one hand, capital imposes biotechnological knowledge, as a mechanism for universalizing agricultural practices and new technologies, and on the other, the capitalist model subordinates men and women to the logic of the market. Thus, water, seeds, minerals, land (common goods) become private property. Furthermore, there are other negative factors, such as heavy mechanization, the ‘plaguetization’ of human and non-human beings, symbolic violence, overexploitation, rains of poison and violence against the person”, says the question posed for analysis .

In the alternatives, candidates should answer whether the text deals with the “siege of peasants”; from the neglect of “landowners”; from the contempt for the salaried workers; from the disrespect towards the rulers or; from the harassment of the business community”.

“This Enem 2023 question is unbelievable! The most curious thing about all this is that the test paper was possibly produced in a cellulose plant in the Brazilian cerrado”, said the Formun Institute when commenting on social media about the question asked by Enem.

“If it weren’t for rural producers, whether small, medium, large or very large, the truth is that we wouldn’t be able to gather around the table with joy, we wouldn’t have the possibility of the country’s ever-increasing growth, we wouldn’t have the certainty of food .

In another question, Enem presented for analysis a 2006 text in which the author associates soybean production with increased deforestation.

“It is clear that deforestation also has something to do with the expansion of soybeans, but attributing the main fact to it seems not entirely correct. I start from the central understanding that the logic that generates deforestation is articulated by the tripod of land grabbers, loggers and ranchers”, says an excerpt from the question.

The approval also brought questions with praise for the writer Paulo Freire and with an analysis of the theory of so-called “structural racism”.
