Endrick at 17 beats football stars of this century at 17 – 11/08/2023 – The World Is a Ball

Endrick, 17, is the name of the moment in national football.

Last week, he shone brightly for Palmeiras, putting the São Paulo team in the fight for the Brazilian Championship title.

First, against the leader Botafogo, with the Alviverde team at a 3-0 disadvantage in the match in Rio, they scored the first two goals of the reaction that culminated in the 4-3 comeback.

Afterwards, he scored the only goal of the game in Barueri (Greater São Paulo) which led to the triumph against Athletico-PR.

These performances, combined with high-quality football (with strength, speed, skill, objectivity and awareness) earned him his first call-up to the adult team, for duels this month in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

A lot of people must be asking: but is Endrick, who is already traded to Spanish giants Real Madrid, really all that?

Currently, it is.

Left-handed Endrick, born in Brasília on July 21, 2006, turned 17 years, three months and 17 days old this Tuesday (7).

At the same age, football stars of this century did not come close to the 14 goals (in 54 games) that the number 9 from Palmeiras accumulated as a professional.

His debut took place on October 7, 2022, just over a year and a month ago, in the 4-0 defeat against Coritiba at Allianz Parque.

The first goals came on the 26th of the same month, in Curitiba, against Athletico – he scored two.

With the same amount of life that Endrick has now, the two most celebrated footballers of the 21st century, Argentine Messi and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, had not even made their professional debuts for Barcelona and Sporting, respectively.

Neymar, Brazil’s biggest name for more than a decade, accumulated three goals for Santos (in 12 matches), the same number as Norwegian Haaland, who should be FIFA’s next The Best, for Molde (in 33 matches).

The incensed Mbappé, world champion with France in 2018 and runner-up in 2022, scored a single goal for Monaco (in 13 games).

In terms of average goals per match, Endrick (0.26) surpasses all those mentioned who had played professionally up until his current age (Neymar, 0.25; Haaland, 0.09; Mbappé, 0.08).

He is also ahead of his compatriot Rodrygo (5 goals in 20 games for Santos, average of 0.25), who will be his teammate against Colombia and Argentina and, later, at Real Madrid.

Here is the situation of each of them at 17 years, three months and 17 days old.

• Endrick: 14 goals in 54 games (1 goal every 3.85 games)
• Rodrygo: 5 goals in 20 games (1 in 4)
• Neymar: 3 goals in 12 games (1 in 4)
• Haaland: 3 goals in 33 games (1 in 11)
• Mbappé: 1 goal in 13 games (1 in 13)

So, when it comes to the 21st century, Endrick is top of the line and, if he continues at the same pace, he will bring a lot of joy to Palmeiras and, later, to Real Madrid.

Entering the last century, however, he loses, and by a huge margin, when the comparison is made, for example, with two of the most fantastic goalscorers that Brazil has ever seen: Pelé, the King of Football, and Ronaldo Fenômeno.

At the age that Endrick is today, Pelé, who left us almost a year ago, had played for Santos 81 times and left 74 balls in the net (average of 0.91 goals per game).

Ronaldo, for Cruzeiro (the club he owns), was even better, considering the average (0.97): he scored 28 goals in 29 matches.
