Manaus (AM) – An audience of 250 people participated, on Tuesday (19), in the “Christmas of Light” celebration, held by the City of Manaus, through the Fundação Doutor Thomas, for the elderly assisted in the Family Long Stay Program (ILPI). and employees, at the foundation’s headquarters, in the Nossa Senhora das Graças neighborhood, Central-South area.

The Christmas event moved the public present, including elderly residents, family members and employees, with the traditional group of servers, the “Choir of Angels”, who sang the birth of Jesus.

The CEO of FDT, Martha Moutinho, highlighted the importance of the “Christmas of Light” program for ILPI residents. ”Today, we serve 153 elderly people in the Long-Term Institution, on a residential basis, at social risk, without family ties or with ties, whose family lacks financial resources or has been a victim of violence. The Christmas celebration is essential to encourage interaction and is part of caring for the elderly. Some elderly people welcome their family to celebrate the date together; for others, who do not have family contact, FDT becomes their support”, she emphasized.

This year, the program included a theatrical play, starring elderly people and teachers from Parque Municipal do Idoso. Lasting 30 minutes, the “Friend’s Christmas” performance showed the importance of emotional bonds of friendship.
“Our performance brought the message of friendship, love and good feelings. It is important to highlight the participation of the PMI Choir, with MPB classics and Christmas songs”, explained the teacher at Parque do Idoso and creator of the piece, Douglas Rosas.

Pastor Fábio Heverton, from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, brought a message of faith, love and hope, about the true meaning of Christmas festivities.

Institutionalized for 20 years, Salete Machado, 86 years old, was moved by the performance. With visual impairment, the elderly woman says that she sees with her heart, which is why she cried during the presentation.

“I live in the foundation, this is my home. I like parties, Christmas always moves me, today’s play talked about friendship; Here, I made friends, I even travel with them. I thank God for being part of the Doctor Thomas family, I feel valued with the programs carried out. Christmas is the best time of the year and celebrating this date alongside everyone here is priceless”, said Salete.
