Eduardo Bolsonaro denounces political censorship in Brazil at event in the US

During his participation in the Annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the largest conservative event in the world, earlier this afternoon (4), federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) criticized the government of President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Judiciary for persecuting the government of his father, Jair Bolsonaro, and supporters. He also pointed out connections between the PT’s victory in 2022 and the emergence of leftist governments in Latin America in recent years, with the promotion of common agendas against conservatives.

On the last day of CPAC, an event held on the outskirts of Washington, where lectures are expected by former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and former American president Donald Trump, the deputy highlighted the fact that Brazil is “very important when talking about geopolitics”, with strategic production of food, energy and mineral resources. For this reason, he warned of the importance of the United States monitoring what is happening in the country and region as a result of Lula’s administration.

In this sense, he complained about the recent “warm reception” given by President Joe Biden to Lula and the authorization by the Brazilian government for Iranian warships to dock in Rio de Janeiro, despite the White House’s request for it to be denied, for example of the refusal given by Uruguay. He also reinforced Brazil’s historical and positive relations with the United States: “we have to be allies, like in the Second World War”, in favor of American security.

Still in his presentation, the deputy called Lula “one of the most dangerous communist, Bolivarian, socialist leaders in the world, whatever you may call him”. “The repetition of absurdities in other governments in Latin America is not a coincidence. There is a connection of agendas, as in the issue of abortion and gender”, he added. Eduardo Bolsonaro deplored the Lula government’s effort to erase his predecessor’s achievements, such as economic growth, job creation and lower fuel prices.

Finally, he superficially commented on the suspicions about the fairness of the elections in Brazil, when asked about Bolsonaro’s defeat, but he made a point of stressing the current reality of more than 700 political arrests of critics in Brasilia and a growing censorship that reaches even parliamentarians, who had their social networks blocked. “Two Brazilian journalists in the United States had their passports canceled by the Supreme Court. This concerns freedom, free expression and the importance of free media to expose a reality that may arrive in the United States tomorrow.”
