Edinho visits his father’s mausoleum and talks about buying the Pelé brand

Edinho, son of Pelewas the only family member to attend the mausoleum of the Football King on Monday, when the Memorial opened space for public visitation. He arrived at the site shortly before the space was opened in Santos. Edinho talked to journalists, hugged friends and posed for photos next to his father’s grave, who died on December 29.

“We still feel a lot of pain, but so much affection and homage is comforting. We, the family, discovered that Pelé was from the world, so nothing fairer than opening the space to the public”, said Edinho, who confessed to a new Arantes project from birth. The King’s son admitted the family’s interest in buying the Pelé brand, which currently belongs to the company Sports 10.

“Actually, today I’m trying to bring together investors to be at the forefront of the Pelé brand again. It’s even a simple thing in terms of concept, but it’s a challenge because there are high values. That’s my challenge, my dream of being able to really represent him in every sense, not only as a family member, but professionally as well”, he said. Pelé sold his brand to the company to explore as much as it could for two decades.

Edinho also commented on the family’s relationship with Joe Fraga, who represents the company that owns the Pelé brand. “Joe Fraga is an operator, not the owner. And, without a doubt, we are always in contact with him. It’s a healthy, professional relationship, but my wish is that it can evolve in the way I envision.” One of the intentions of Pelé’s family is that other tributes be made in the city of Santos. It is worth remembering that the Brasileirão 2023 takes its mark.

“I have a dream of really being able to create a project that will generate an experience, together with the tourism office of the city of Santos and with Santos Futebol Clube. To create an experience where they can come to Santos, Vila Belmiro, Memorial das Achievements , Pelé Museum, important points in his life trajectory and, of course, at the end of this experience, stop by and say goodbye to him”, said Edinho.

PELE MAUSOLEUM

The mausoleum where Pelé’s body lies, at the Memorial Necrópole Ecumenica, a vertical cemetery, in Santos, was opened for public visitation this Monday, as promised by the family. The monument is coated with golden aluminum plates and has four panels. Two of them show Pelé’s goals and the other two, the celebration with the player’s traditional punch in the air. The visitor can see Pelé’s tomb and everything that was built around it.

To visit the site, interested parties must enter the memorial’s website and register for free. 60 visits will be released per day, divided into 30 in the morning and another 30 in the afternoon. The recommendation is to avoid agglomeration. Thousands of people attended his wake in Vila Belmiro, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Pelé died on December 29, 2022, aged 82, from multiple organ failure, after facing colon cancer. He always wanted tributes to be paid to him in life.
