This Tuesday (15), Edina Alves made history by taking charge of the duel between Spain and Sweden, valid for the semifinal of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. She became the first Brazilian referee to act in eight World Cup matches between men and women , surpassing the record of Carlos Simon, who had refereed seven games in three World Cups (2002, 2006 and 2010).
Edina was present in 2019, in France, when she refereed four World Cup matches. Alongside Neuza Back and Tatiane Sacilotti, the three made history by leading the semifinal of that edition between England and the United States, in which the Americans emerged victorious.
After this Tuesday’s match, in New Zealand, Regildênia Moura, the first woman to hold a position on the CBF arbitration commission, praised the quartet that represented Brazil in this World Cup – she was also referring to Daiane Muniz, who acted in the VAR during the competition.
“The refereeing team’s decisions today were very good. The Brazilian arbitration once again did a good job. Edina’s fourth game and all games with good decisions, without any VAR intervention, which shows the capacity and quality of Brazilian refereeing”.
