Drought: See before and after the Solimões and Negro rivers – 10/16/2023 – Environment
[ad_1]
The landscape of the Negro and Solimões rivers, which are among the most important in the Amazon, has been transformed by the severe drought in the Amazon in recent weeks.
This Monday (16), the Negro River reached its lowest level in 120 years of measurement in Manaus. This mark broke the negative record of 2010 and places the 2023 drought as the most serious in recent times in this part of the Amazon.
The Solimões, the central vein of the biome, became a desert in the region of Tefé (AM). Huge sandbars now occupy the site of what was once a raging river.
