Doria’s black paint starts to leave Bandeirantes – 05/03/2023 – Panel

The black and gray paints that former governor João Doria used to paint the walls and furniture of the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, undergoing a controversial renovation in 2019, are starting to lose ground.

The Tarcísio de Freitas administration (Republicans) has taken advantage of maintenance works to restore the spaces to their original appearance. Interventions began with the offices of the governor and the secretary of government, Gilberto Kassab.

The Secretariat for International Relations and the dispatch room will also undergo renovations. The spaces for the Governor and the Secretariat of the Civil House will undergo changes to display the furniture from previous offices, in exhibitions with pieces to tell a part of the history of São Paulo and its seats of government —not only the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, but also the Campos Elísios Palace.

Tarcísio’s secretaries have reaffirmed the criticism that Doria suffered at the time of having mischaracterized the Palace’s spaces. However, there is no specific work forecast to completely eliminate the gray and black paints, which still occupy a good part of the internal spaces.

According to a report sent by Doria’s management at the time, the renovation cost BRL 1.1 million and included, in addition to painting, repairs to gutters, removal of termites, repairs to infiltrations, installation of vinyl flooring on hardwood and adjustments to the old plant residential wing, which became the governor’s office, with drywall walls.
