The President of the Republic entered the field and supposedly fixed the game. It remains to be seen whether, from now on, everything will really be different from what was the difficult relationship with the Legislative Power in these initial months of government.
Did Lula do the right thing? Depends on the viewpoint. If the observation post is the Planalto Palace, at the moment that’s what had to be done: not giving in to calls for a broad ministerial reform, adjusting the team here and there without changing positions more expensive to the president, keeping the flow oiled of releasing amendments and calibrating the agendas to reduce useless confrontations in Parliament.
It is different when the panorama is analyzed by people with accumulated experience from other carnivals. People who participated in many governments, the PT, the PSDB and the MDB of ex-president Michel Temer, think that Lula has not gone down a good path.
According to this perception, the head of government will not resume command of the game until he creates within Congress an alternative space for dialogue with the mayor, Arthur Lira, to whom he would have surrendered completely and hastily, astonished that he was by the ghost of Eduardo Cunha.
Prudence, however, may have been excessive and it would be time to change the course of the prose. Reinforcing dialogue with the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, would not be enough, as the crux of the matter is in the Chamber, where the deputy from Alagoas reigns supreme.
And there, in the view of experienced observers, is where Lula should act. Not in open conflict, but in finding someone she could give the tools to operate internally on behalf of the government.
In this way, start building a “friendly” candidacy, capable of facing the name chosen by Arthur Lira for his succession and, thus, avoiding the perpetuation of the climate of tension.
