Neither Athens nor New York. Much less London or Berlin. The most iconic marathon in the world has been held since 1897 in Boston, USA, on the third Monday of April, on a holiday known as Patriot’s Day.
It’s not enough to be a marathon runner to run in Boston. You have to be really good. Athletes only guarantee their place in the race if they have obtained index in other marathons in the previous 24 months. The classification time varies according to gender and age. A man up to 34 years old, for example, needs to travel the 42 kilometers in up to 3 hours.
10 years ago, the Boston Marathon was marked by tragedy. As tens of thousands of runners competed and crowds gathered to watch the athletes pass, two bombs exploded near the finish line, killing three people, leaving 14 amputee and injuring hundreds.
After an intense search, the police found those responsible for the attack – the brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, both of Kyrgyz origin. Tamerlan died during the police pursuit, while Dzhokhar was arrested, tried and sentenced to death.
The story of the attack has already been told in the movie “Patriots Day (2016)” and now has a new version. The documentary “American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing”, directed by Floyd Russ, recounts the tragic events of the day of the marathon in 2013. In three episodes, the documentary features interviews with former police officers, spectators, marathon runners, paramedics, journalists and other people affected by the attack.
The premiere is scheduled for April 12 on Netflix. Below, the official trailer for the documentary.
