After 324 days imprisoned in the Papuda Penitentiary Complex for participating in the acts of January 8, in Brasília, doctor Frederico Rosário Fusco de Oliveira, aged 60, received provisional release. He left the prison late this Tuesday morning (28) and paid tribute to his friend Clezão – as he called the merchant Cleriston Pereira da Cunha, a prisoner from 8/1 who died on November 20th.

On that date, Clezão fell ill in the penitentiary and received first aid from doctor and colleague Frederico, who performed cardiac massage with the help of other prisoners until the emergency team arrived, but was unable to save him. “Clezão will not be forgotten”, he wrote on the t-shirt he wore when leaving prison.

According to the defense team, the elderly man lost around 15 kilos during his imprisonment and from now on will receive treatment for hypothyroidism, cardiac arrhythmia, chronic collateral fibrillation, pre-diabetes and dyslipidemia, which is a high level of fats in the blood. The doctor left Papuda excited, and was welcomed by friends and family.

“Even a patient who was going to have surgery with him the day after the protests came to meet him and cried, saying that she is waiting for Dr. Frederico to perform this surgery”, reported lawyer Carolina Siebra, mentioning that the elderly man still doesn’t know what his routine will be like due to the rules regarding schedules and travel due to the use of an electronic ankle bracelet, but he assured that his fight for the other prisoners of 8/1 will continue.

“And he spoke mainly about Seu Jorginho, who is in a very bad condition”, reported the lawyer, citing a 63-year-old man who has eight pins in his spine and is in very poor emotional health. The case was reported in a report by Gazeta do Povo.

Why was Dr. Frederico arrested?

Still according to the lawyer, Dr. Frederico was arrested on January 8, after helping a person who was feeling ill on the outskirts of Palácio do Planalto and being invited by the police to take shelter inside the building. “The police asked him to enter because the environment was inhospitable due to the stun bombs”, reported the lawyer, informing that Frederico was arrested moments later.

Frederico is from Rio de Janeiro, previously lived in Minas Gerais, and currently resides in Brasília. He has worked as a general practitioner for 35 years and has two children.
