Tennis player Novak Djokovic said this Wednesday (22) that he is still awaiting a decision from the United States to find out whether he can enter the country without having been vaccinated against Covid-19.
“Right now it’s all in process. I’m very grateful to the organization at Indian Wells and Miami for their support, for wanting me to play. I have a great desire to be there. I haven’t played there in a few years. I’m waiting for a positive decision soon, but it’s not in my hands,” he said at a press conference. “If I miss out again it won’t be the first time but I hope not. I hope I’m there. All I can do at the moment is hope. It’s all I can do at the moment. My position remains the same.”
DJOKOVIC SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION TO ENTER THE USA
The world number 1 has submitted a request for special permission to enter the United States.
Djokovic wants to enter the US to play in the Indian Wells and Miami Masters in March. He gained support from tournament organizers.
The Serbian did not play any tournament in the country last year. The US requires foreigners to be vaccinated to enter the country.
BACK FROM INJURY CONFIRMED
Djokovic also spoke at the press conference about the thigh muscle injury.
“As for the injury I picked up at the Australian Open, it’s healed but I’m still not 100%. Things are looking pretty good. As a team, we’ve made the decision to go to Dubai.”
The Serbian confirmed that he will dispute the ATP 500 in Dubai, next week.
