The capital of São Paulo, which turns 470 years old, is known for being multicultural and home to communities from different countries. On a tour, it is possible to explore the typical cuisine of these places without leaving the city.

But forget the more popular Italian, Japanese or French cuisines. The following itinerary features food from less talked about regions: you can try spicy recipes from Thailand or arepas from Colombia, for example.

ANGOLAN

Jango
Recently opened on Rua Augusta, the restaurant features typical Angolan recipes. Among them, the chicken moamba, made with chicken with peanut cream, accompanied by rice and cabbage or funge, a type of pirão (R$ 38.90), and the calulu with dried meat, okra, eggplant and spinach with palm oil (R$ 42.90).

Canton
It prepares Chifa cuisine, which is a Chinese and Peruvian fusion. Macondo Colombian Roots
Born in Colombia, Jair Abril Rojas started selling typical delicacies from his country at a street stall until opening his restaurant in 2020. There, you can try the arepa, a cooked and ground corn roll, which can be topped with your choice of toppings, from R$5.50. The paisa tray is another option and brings together ten items, such as kidney beans, chorizo ​​and avocado (R$53).

Scandinavian
The kitchen is run by Denise Guerschman, who lived in Norway, and offers Nordic recipes. A five-course tasting menu (R$380) brings together the main elements of this cuisine, such as herring, sheep meat, cheeses and pickles. Open for dinner on Saturday (8pm) and lunch on Sunday (1pm).

HAWAIANA

It specializes in Hawaiian cuisine, which has Japanese influences. Curry, a recipe made up of a mixture of spices, is one of the bases of Indian cuisine and of this restaurant. Ada Makan
It is one of the rare representatives of Indonesian gastronomy. Cook Murniaty Moerid serves the classic nasi goreng (R$64), fried rice with chicken thigh cubes, vegetables, soy sauce, sambal (pepper sauce), quail egg, mix of nuts and herbs, and satay , grilled skewer with peanut sauce (R$ 42).

Momu
Nepalese couple Amar and Anusha Ale open the door in Pinheiros that sells a single delicacy: momo, a small bundle of steamed light dough. Tembi’u
The restaurant is located in Bom Retiro, a multicultural neighborhood that brings together immigrants and cuisines from different countries. This one features typical Paraguayan recipes, with indigenous influences. The chipa guasu is a corn pie with cheese (R$7), and the borí borí is a soup with balls of corn flour and meat (R$28).

Appreciated in many countries, Thai food is still unknown to many São Paulo residents. Aiô
It features an original menu of Taiwanese cuisine, a mix of Chinese and Japanese influences. The restaurant belongs to the same owners as Mapu, which serves baos and other dishes from the Asian country, located on the same street.

Bia Hoi
Vietnamese food classics are the stars of the restaurant and bar. The restaurant has a branch in Pinheiros, with new features on the menu.
