Disability not externally visible receives recognition in the Amazon

Manaus (AM) — Law No. 6,307, of July 19, 2023, was sanctioned, which brings important changes to the legislation relating to Persons with Disabilities in the state. The objective is to recognize and guarantee the rights of those who have disabilities that are not externally visible, such as mental, intellectual, sensory or physical disabilities.
Among the novelties, the creation of the sunflower cord stands out, an optional instrument for identifying people with disabilities that are not visible externally. The use of the lanyard does not exempt the presentation of a document proving the disability that is not visible externally, but it allows greater visibility and understanding of the need for priority and humanized care in public and private establishments.
Deputy Felipe Souza (Patriota), author of the law, highlighted the importance of recognizing and guaranteeing the rights of people with disabilities that are not externally visible. “Inclusion and accessibility are fundamental pillars for a more just and egalitarian society”declared the parliamentarian.
The law brings new definitions for the various categories of disability, such as physical, hearing, visual, mental, among others, aiming at greater precision and understanding of the subject.
Deputies Felipe Souza, Alessandra Campelo and Joana D’arc are the authors of this Law No. 6,307, which entered into force on the date of its publication, representing a significant advance towards the promotion of inclusion and dignity of people with disabilities that are not externally visible in the state of Amazonas.
From now on, society is expected to become increasingly sensitive and committed to providing equal opportunities and conditions for all, regardless of their particularities.
