Dino signals for the publication of a new decree on weapons in May

The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino (PSB), signaled the publication of a new decree to regulate guns for May. The idea is that the new instrument regulates the granting of new registrations for clubs and shooting schools, as well as new registrations for hunters, shooters and collectors (CACs), which have been suspended since January.

A decree signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) suspended registrations for the acquisition and transfer of arms and ammunition by CACs and private individuals, and also restricted the amount of weapons and ammunition for permitted use. In addition, it suspended the granting of new club and shooting school registrations and the granting of new CAC registrations.

The opposition maintains that, in addition to directly confronting the free exercise of sports by the CACs, Lula’s decree harms the professional activity of shooting clubs and threatens the income of entrepreneurs and even the jobs of workers who work in this market. In response to federal deputy Lieutenant Colonel Zucco (Republicanos-RS) about the deadline for publication of a new decree that revokes suspensions, Dino did not give guarantees, but suggested that it is possible to issue a new decree in May.

“Soon after the end of the re-registration, the working group will end its activities and we will draft the new decree and send it to the president [Lula]”, said Dino this Tuesday (11) at a hearing at the Chamber’s Commission for Public Security and Combating Organized Crime. for this — a new decree should be issued,” he added.

The government extended the period for re-registration of weapons until May 3. Dino informed that, at the moment, there are 880,000 weapons re-registered, a number classified by the minister as “quite expressive”. With the issuance of a new decree scheduled for May, “those activities that are suspended will be resumed”. “I therefore want to give this forecast, but I cannot, at this moment, give an exact date, but the reference month is the month of May”, he highlighted.
