The Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, met this Monday (30) with the task force that deals with public security in Rio de Janeiro to discuss measures to decapitalize organized crime in the state. The meeting took place at the Palace of Justice, in Brasília. The meeting was held amid the crisis caused by militia attacks on public transport in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
According to the minister, the current phase of work between the federal government and the state of Rio “aims not only at the issue of overt policing, but, above all, at the dimension of the seizure of assets, and, therefore, decapitalization of criminal organizations and of integrated intelligence work, with the objective of ‘financially dehydrating organized crime’”, the ministry said in a note.
Furthermore, Dino stated that “there is no limit on places in federal prisons” for criminals who work in Rio. “President Lula’s determination is that, in relation to Rio de Janeiro, there is no limit on places in federal prisons. We are in this We are currently debating the possibility of opening another federal prison, in order to have vacancies, as this is an effective mechanism, it really works”, highlighted the minister after the meeting, the newspaper reported The globe.
The department’s executive secretary, Ricardo Capelli, stated that the Integrated Financial Investigation and Asset Recovery Committee (Cifra) will be formalized next week. “We are putting into practice the logic of Susp, the Unified Public Security System, integrating federated entities with a concrete objective, which is the investigation of financial crimes and money laundering. The decapitalization of these criminal organizations is decisive for us to reduce their offensive potential and be able to dismantle them”, said Cappelli.
The initiative should have representatives from the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, the Rio de Janeiro Finance Secretariat, State Treasury prosecutors and auditors, in addition to the National Public Security Secretariat (Senasp), Federal Police and Federal Highway Police. During the event, the chief secretary of the Civil House of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Nicola Moreira Miccione, stated that “as long as the financial dimension is not addressed for a long period and firmly, crime will not be curbed in the country”.
“It is a message to the population that the federal and state governments are starting to look at the suffocation of the financial power of crime in a different way. We have to organize ourselves to face the enemy who is not disorganized at all,” she added. This Tuesday (31), Dino will present the initiatives discussed in the meeting with representatives from Rio to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), at Palácio do Planalto. The meeting will have the participation of the Federal Police, the Ministry of Defense and the commanders of the Armed Forces.
