Dino delivers images from only 4 of the 185 cameras at the Palace of Justice

Even pressured by the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) that investigates the acts of January 8, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, sent only the images of 4 of the 185 cameras that make up the monitoring circuit of the Palace of Justice. The information is from the newspaper The State of São Paulo (Estadão).

Last week, after repeated requests from the CPMI, Dino sent the images from two cameras and, last Thursday (31), he sent the files from two more.

According to the minister, most of the images from the 8th of January no longer exist, as a failure in the contract with a security company would not oblige the storage of the files for a long period.

The recording system would have a storage capacity limited to less than 30 days, according to the minister.

The existence of the 185 cameras was proven by Estadão in internal documents of the portfolio to which it had access, such as the contract signed with the company responsible for security. The contract was signed in 2021.

The system includes, in addition to the 185 cameras, a recording room with drives for storing images.

“There is a contract on the rules for preserving these images. There were preserved images, because they were in investigations. The PF went there at the beginning of February and took the images. All existing images have been delivered”, said the minister in an interview with Globonews, last Thursday (31).

On Tuesday (29), the Federal Police confirmed that the images had indeed been deleted.

Yesterday, Dino also sent a letter to the CPMI in an attempt to explain the disappearance of the images and the inaction of the National Force.

The files from the last two cameras sent to the Commission show that the executive secretary of the Ministry, Ricardo Cappelli, came down around 5:30 pm from the office where he was following the protests to instruct the police to advance the barricade that was positioned at the minister’s private entrance.

In the first images delivered by Dino, last week, the National Force platoons already appear protecting the Palace of Justice.

Despite the seriousness of the matter, the Ministry of Justice did not explain why it did not take steps to archive the images regardless of the “contractual failure” with the security company.
